Here are some more information for Wagon Series:

As someone who has always been involved in the vintage Land-rover and other vehicles with a good off road capability, I have had to get reasonably good at carrying out repairs and modifications myself. I have owned 3 landies in my time, the first a 1985 110 County Station-wagon, the 2nd a 1973 Series 3 Military Lightweight, and the final one, a 1955 Series One which I never got on the road and ended up selling.
The Land-rover is a flagship of the British car industry and have been rolling out of the factory since the 1940's. They are a great vehicle for off-roading in or just to pass the time cruising around with the canvas top removed.
The really great thing about them is that they are very easy to work on, built like tanks, and remarkably cheap to ensure, particularly the older models. One of the negative points about the old 2.25 litre petrol models is that they are a little juicy on the gas. I converted one to LPG very simply myself, for a cost of around 400 GBP, and the savings on fuel were substantial.
I moved to the other side of the world where the trusty Land-rover is not that common. I really miss them. The good news is that I am returning to England later this year and will buy one again. It's really strange how an old lump of metal has such an enduring attraction for so many people. Long live the land rover. I love them!
I have been a lover of the landrover for many years. I have always renovated them myself. It pays to have a good welding supply company to get your welding gear from. I have recently reviewed some of the best custom welding helmet designs on the market and found that they provide great value for money with a nice hint of individuality.
The Historic Landrover Series
After the US Willys Jeep that have become a prominent all-terrain land vehicle for US GIs, the next most popular is the British Landrover Series considered the most successful off-road vehicles ever produced.
More specifically, you have the Series 1 to 3 that have went beyond military use for which it was originally intended. The marque’s highly versatile and durable utilitarian use found its way in competitions and land expeditions throughout the world. You often see them against the African safari landscapes as well as in the South American Amazon rain forests taking on various loads against the most challenging terrains.
They have inspired other off-road vehicles that evolved into the Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs that have become popular since the 80s.
Brief History
The very first Land Rover started out as a British military equivalent to the US Jeep and made by the Rover Company in its Solihull factory near Birmingham. That was the Series I unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor show in 1948. Over the next half century, there has been the Series II in 1958, the Series IIA in 1961 and the Series III in 1971 that finally ended in 1985. In 1976, the Land Rover saw is one millionth vehicle coming out of production.
From being just a brand under the Rover Company when it started out, the Land Rover was incorporated as a separate Land Rover Ltd in 1978.It survived over five dizzying changes of ownership. In 1967 the Rover Company became part of the Leyland Motors that soon became state-owned British Leyland Motors. This eventually got reamed as the Rover Group Plc in 1986 which now produced both the Land Rover line and the Range Rover introduced in 1970. The Rover Group was privatized and acquired by the British Aerospace in 1988 and produced both lines until 1994 when it was sold to BMW.
In 2000, BMW sold its Range Rover and Land Rover line to Ford Motors which continued producing both marques until 2008 when the financially troubled Ford sold its Jaguar and Rover line to the Tata Motors of India.
Timeless Popularity
The Landrover Series created what could well be the seed bed that popularized the off-road Sport Utility Vehicles of the 90s to the present. But despite better, more powerful and luxurious SUVs on the road, the Series I, II and III Land Rovers remain on the road with about 70% of those produced still road worthy.
Its tradition has been founded on its versatility, strength and durability that can withstand payloads in excess of one ton, powerful 2 liter diesel/petrol engine with a motive force that can pull itself over 45-degree inclines.
It's excellent Hardy-Spicer gearbox generate high power take-off and an after-market conversion kit that has no parallel in terms of variety and convertibility as a truck, a station wagon, a pick-up, a fire engine, an ambulance, an amphibious vehicle and a canvass-topped over-air all-terrain vehicle.
It’s also a favorite in the Paris Dakar endurance race division for 4X4 vehicles winning virtually all the Macmillan 4X4 UK Challenge races since 2002.
The Land Rover marque is now owned by the Jaguar Land Rover operation of the Tata Motors of India which continues the Rover tradition of excellence under newer models like the Discovery, Defender and Freelander.
