If you are in the least way interested in automobiles and how they work, then you probably have heard the term "muscle car" before. However, it is also very possible that you do not know what it means! Muscle cars are defined as a member of a variety of high performance automobiles that originated from as far back as in the late 1940s. A more widely accepted definition refers to American made two door cars which were mid-sized and offered rear wheel drive (RWD) capabilities. These cars were made in the late 1960s and 1970s and most came with very powerful V8 engines and sold at very affordable prices.
Generally, they original muscle cars were used for drag racing and street use, both formally and informally. This means that you would see muscle cars in competitive drag racing, and you would also see them on the go in street drag racing.
There are various views about when the first muscle car was invented, and many believe that the Oldsmobile Rocket 88 was the first one developed in 1949 in response to the public's interest in speed and power. This was in fact one of those cars with the powerful overhead V8 engine, which was America's first high compression engine. And of course, it was installed in the light Oldsmobile body.
Take a look at some of the more popular of these cars that showed up from as early as 1955:
The Chrysler C-300 was manufactured in 1955 and effortlessly combined Hemi-power and luxury features that quickly named it the new star of NASCAR at that time. It was named and advertised as "America's Most Powerful Car" with 300 horsepower.
In 1957, the Rambler Rebel was introduced to the market as the fastest stock American sedan.
By the early 1960s, manufacturers like Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile all lined up with their own muscle cars, which were followed by Buick one year later.
A late comer to the game was AMC, arriving with some of the greatest muscle cars in the late 1960s. The popular Rambler Marlin was introduced to the market in 1965 to compete with the Ford Mustang and Plymouth Barracuda. And in 1968, they came with two legitimate contenders for the title -- the Javelin and the AMX.
There is so much history on these cars, it's no wonder they are still so widely popular across the world today!

Bring Back the Glory of Plymouth With Plymouth Parts
In May 1928, while America was still recovering from great depression, Chrysler decided to form a company named Plymouth Motor Corporation that resembles freedom, endurance, strength, and ruggedness. Its automobiles were aimed to produce competing machines against Chevrolet and Ford. It was sold exclusively in the United States in its earlier years and scheduled to launch worldwide after it made a mark in the industry. The brand has been successful and ranked third in the entry-level car market. This success is naturally credited to its high quality standards and innovativeness seen in their Plymouth parts at a stunning low price.
In April 1934, Plymouth had made it big when their first station wagon adds to their list and followed by series of trucks. Their line of trucks looked much like the Dodge’s PT50 because these were built on Dodge PT50 chassis. In the 60’s though, the brand suffered severe loss out of its lack of individuality and intensity to car customers. Aside from that, the fall of its mother company, Chrysler Corporation, was one of the biggest factors that threatened its existence in the automotive industry. Another reason is the failure of the company to insert luxury features to their vehicles and just relied mainly to its common styles that had been with it since its debut. One in particular is the sharp lines and elongated nose-like appearance of the hood. And of course, the penetration of Dodge in the automotive industry which has better models that were offered in the same price range. In the year 1970, the brand regained its sales but was not able to gain back its popularity. Amidst the struggle of enhancements and redesigning, Daimler Chrysler had withdrawn Plymouth in 2001 to concentrate on Dodge.
Looking back, Plymouth’s glory days have been notable in the automotive industry when it introduces Prowler and PT Cruiser. The brand might never been successful to stay in the long run, but it has made its legacy in the industry. Today, Plymouth vehicles continue to bring life in every road, making every car owner enjoy their ride with its powerful performance. Behind these vehicle’s efficiency and performance is its legendary Plymouth parts.

can the engine from a 1985 Chrysler 5th Avenue fit into a 1972 plymouth duster or any 70's duster?
I own a 1972 Plymouth Duster and when I bought it, it had a 318 motor in it and the 1985 Chrysler 5th Avenue as a 318 in it. but will the motor mounts drive shaft and all the small stuff bolt up with little to no modifications...I am just trying to get my Duster back up and running.
Shouldn't have any problems. The 318 block was the same for quite some time. All the important parts will line up fine but the smart thing to do would be to change the manifold and all the upper engine parts to avoid any problems.
Good Luck getting that hot rod back on the road
They're back in business: Dealerships in Niles, Plymouth get good news from GM.
