Ready to hit the hills for the weekend? Want to get those new mud terrain tires a little muddy? Maybe pack up the camping gear and take the family on an exciting 4x4 adventure through the Sierra Nevada's? Well here's your chance! Here's a list of some of my favorite 4x4 trails in and around the bay area, including camping accommodations and trail information. Jump in the truck and get in gear!
Hollister Hills SVRA (State Vehicular Recreation Area) is located just outside the border of Downtown Hollister, Ca. A short drive through old town and your practically there. The SVRA park is divided into two sections, one for four wheel drive vehicles and another for motorcycles and ATV's. If your looking to take the 4x4 truck out for the weekend then you will make your way to the upper ranch. Located on an 800 acre plot of land, the upper ranch is a combination of fire road style trails, hill climbs, water/mud crossings, and even advanced trails/obstacles for the rock crawler community. Day use admission is $5, which goes to park maintenance. Campsites are available with fire pits and bathrooms, for $10 per vehicle per night. Trucks are allowed to run the trails from sunrise to sunset, night wheeling is prohibited. All in all this is a great park full of trails for beginner to advanced 4x4 enthusiasts.
Deer Valley trail is located just below Hermit Valley. The trail runs from Lower Blue Lake all the way to HWY 4. If your looking for a bit harder trail run then start the trail from the south entrance and head north, reason being is that the hill ascends with a large amount of boulders on the climb. The trail only takes about 3 hours to complete one way. Along the trail you will run across two water crossings which change in size based on the snow run off. Through out deer valley there are wilderness camping areas off the side of the trail. This is a wonderful trail, easy to access, and a stunning landscape all along the way.
Swamp Lake trail is located roughly 55 miles east of Fresno, tucked away in the Sierra Nevada's. You can get to the trail head via route 168. Primarily composed of granite rock, this trails terrain ranges from large slabs of granite to granite steps to the usual boulder crawling. Along the trail you will eventually cross two lakes, Swamp Lake and Grouse Lake. Fortunately, both lakes have camping areas and are capable of holding up to 15 vehicles. The lakes have great fishing, home to rainbow trout, so bring the fishing poles and permits. Fires are allowed along the trail with a fire permit available at the local ranger station. During the winter months, the gates are closed due to extreme weather conditions. The Swamp Lake trail is a bit harder than some of the other mentioned trails. Make sure your truck is capable of handling the terrain before you make the trip out to the Fresno area. Overall, this trail is one of my personal favorites. Just remember to tread lightly.
I hope this article helps you on your next journey as a weekend warrior. Keep in mind, I've only mentioned three of the many 4x4 trails in the bay area. Get out, cruise some trails and keep the sport alive! Again, remember to tread lightly. Thanks!

Nissan Announces Pricing for 2007 Nissan Nismo 350z
Nissan North America, Inc. has just announced the pricing its highly anticipated new 2007 Nissan NISMO 350Z, set to go on sale in July at Nissan dealers nationwide.
The NISMO 350Z features an extensively developed list of unique equipment - including a special aerodynamics package and improved handling equipment. It is the fifth model in Mazda’s 2007 350Z Coupe lineup and is available with a 6-speed manual transmission only and is offered at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $38,070. Customers are able to pre-order 2007 NISMO 350Zs at Nissan dealers beginning June 13.
"This is the first time in the Nissan Z(R)'s 37-year history that a NISMO- branded model is part of the extensive Z(R) lineup," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "NISMO is known around the world as the premier supplier of high-performance and racing parts and accessories for Nissan vehicles. The NISMO 350Z is geared towards enthusiasts who want the ultimate 350Z straight from the factory performance experts."
The thing that will likely catch your attention (and hold it) about the new NISMO 350Z is its NISMO aerodynamics package, which strongly resembles the Super GT championship winning Z(R)s. The package boasts of top of the line Nissan parts including a functional front fascia with chin spoiler, side skirts, an extended rear fascia with underbody diffuser and a rear wing, and produces additional aerodynamic downforce to provide enhanced cornering and handling performance.
Additional performance features include a specially tuned independent multi-link suspension, Brembo brakes with four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers (with 12.8-inch front and 12.7-inch rear rotors) and special NISMO-branded gunmetal gray RAYS super-lightweight forged-alloy wheels (18x9- inch front and 19x10-inch rear with 245/40WR18 front, 265/35WR19 rear Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires).
Inside, NISMO 350Z drivers receive special treatment with unique black cloth seats with red inserts, red stitching on the steering wheel and door panels and a special NISMO gray-faced tachometer. All NISMO 350Zs receive a NISMO-etched aluminum serialized plaque mounted on the center console, designating its limited edition status.
The NISMO 350Z includes a full complement of 350Z standard features, including the new VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 306 horsepower @ 6,800 RPM and 268 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 RPM - with 240 lb-ft torque available between 2,000 and 6,400 RPM. Engine features include variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), a 7,500 rpm rev limit and a symmetric twin ram air intake system. A special NISMO-branded tuned exhaust adds an authoritative tone to the NISMO 350Z's 306-horsepower V6 engine.
Additional standard equipment includes HomeLink(R) Universal Transceiver, cruise control, aluminum pedals, illuminated steering wheel audio controls and auto-dimming rearview mirror, power windows, 3-bay gauge cluster, High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-xenon (high and low beam) headlights, LED taillights, Advanced Air Bag System, side and curtain side-impact supplemental air bags and Active Head Restraints.
"The NISMO 350Z is designed for enthusiasts who want a Z(R) that makes a statement and is a testament to their love of driving," said Bosley. "It has the appearance that stands out from the crowd and the performance to back it up."
In addition to the new NISMO 350Z, the 2007 350Z Coupe is offered in Base, Enthusiast, Touring and Grand Touring models. The 2007 350Z Roadster is offered in three models - Enthusiast, Touring and Grand Touring.
The NISMO 350Z is offered in four exterior colors - Redline Red, Magnetic Black, Silver Alloy and Pikes Peak White.
