The new Toyota Trucks are easily the toughest, most powerful vehicles on the road. With the demanding needs of their owners, manufacturers have delivered new and game changing power with its 5.7 Litre V8. Nothing else has come close to it's massive horsepower and torque advantage. But with this power comes a steep price, fuel economy dwindles rapidly with the rigorous use the use of this new and bold ride. Tundra owners depend on them for their hauling and towing needs, so there has to be some nice aftermarket products one can buy to help leverage better gas mileage. And so, the following are some of the most widely sold products available in the market place to improve not only your Tundra's horsepower/torque, but also the fuel economy.
The elementary and basic add on these days is a simple high flow/cleanable air filter. Companies such as K&N and Airaid sell these performance filters at most retail outlets including Pep Boys, Autozone, and even Walmart. These air filters are easy to install, usually within 20 minutes and it's one less piece of maintenance you would have to pay for in the future. The overall cost of just buying this will save you money in air filters over the life of the truck. Toyota Tundra owners will benefit from a 1-3 mpg increase and up to a 20 HP increase as well. And the great thing is, they only cost from $35-55 dollars depending on your individual application. In turn, be sure to add this quick and cheap performance goodie to your list of gas savers.
Another great addition to any year of Toyota Tundra is a that higher flowing custom exhaust. If you thought that new 5.7 sounds good, just wait until you install a custom exhaust system from Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow or even TRD. More complete air flow and an efficient system in dispelling burnt gases will up the Horsepower/Torque numbers and you will see a small increase in gas mileage to boot. Most manufacturers have complete, ready to install kits available. Additionally, the kits come complete with all the hardware, mandrel bent pipes, instructions and could be installed in an afternoon's time with some basic hand tools. As a result, you'll not only feel and hear the difference of a custom exhaust, but you'll notice the increase of all the performance numbers.
And lastly, another easy and inexpensive performance item for your new or old Toyota Tundra is a performance chip. Performance chips are specifically designed to flash the truck's computer to adjust shift points and fuel curves to net driver's more power and torque. Plus with this easy install, the truck will also have more electronically enhanced transmission shift algorithms to save you on gas. The shifts will go out longer or shorter based on your driving demands. Companies like Hypertech and Superchips make chips for every application and costs no more than $80-125 depending on vehicle type. And so, the performance chip is an easy one man operation that takes minutes to apply.
And that is a small list of quick, cheap, and stress free performance products. With all three installed, most trucks net a 25% better fuel economy and up to 35-50 horsepower increase over the stock numbers. Of course, who doesn't like a little extra boost in all of these areas?? Recently, there has been this trend of popular hybrid vehicles hitting the road. With the summer fast approaching, and almost certain hikes in gas prices, a hybrid type of Toyota Tundra doesn't seem like a bad idea. There is a cheap and simple way you can convert your Tundra into a gas saving vehicle for the future gas price increases, and the IRS will even pay you tax credits for driving a clean fuel vehicle. Replacement Chips, Programmers Offer More Power
High gas prices has a lot of consumers down, but helpful aftermarket improvements can help improve your car’s performance . Depending on the improvements made to your vehicle, your car should run more expeditiously and save you gas and not devour additional resources. This is true with a performance chip or power programmer installed in your vehicle, aftermarket parts that improve your car’s performance.
Your car comes equipped with a special computer chip that controls your engine’s output, particularly in the area of fuel delivery. With a performance chip, your car realizes a much more efficient delivery of fuel to your engine at specified times in the course of driving. The result is that you will see detectable increases in horsepower as well as in torque. Replacement chips from a variety of makers will also help your vehicle run more expeditiously, resulting in slender increases in fuel efficiency.
With a power programmer the equivalent results are achieved as with a performance chip, but in a less aggressive way. With a performance chip you must get rid of and replace the original chip with the replacement chip which atypically involves removing your car’s dash to get at the chip. With a power programmer, including those made by industry leader Hypertech, you simply plug the programmer into your under dash diagnosis plug, reply to a series of Yes/No questions, and the programmer immediately calibrates your engine. No tools are needed to use a power programmer and you can return your car to its OEM power specifications at any time.
Prices for super chips and power programmers differ depending on the make and model of your vehicle and of the product purchased. Expect to a pay a premium for a chip or programmer ordered through an aftermarket parts store while saving plenty of money when shopping from a trusty online retailer. Performance chips and programmers are not made for every vehicle as manufacturers usually target those cars and trucks which are performance oriented.
Some of the vehicles that can benefit from at least one of these products include:
* Cadillac STA
* Chevrolet Camaro
* Dodge Challenger
* Ford Mustang
* Jeep Liberty
* Lincoln MKS
* Almost all midsize and full size trucks from GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, et al.
You can increase the performance of your car, minivan, crossover, sport/utility vehicle or pickup truck without costly and hard to install aftermarket parts. A super chip or power programmer can do wonders for your vehicle, making it a true contemporary muscle car.

What else can I do to my truck for power?
I have a silverado 5.3L V8 vortec. I installed a K&N cool air intake and fully replaced the exhaust system from the end of the Y-pipe-back and installed a flowmaster muffler. (no cat). I was thinking of getting a JETS chip upgrade but was unsure of the gains for the money. What else can I put on my truck to gain some more power... supercharger is a little further off since that is some real money. How about a throttle body spacer? will it make a difference? Headers? what company has good gains for a silverado? What else is there? I really don't want to break apart the engine for at least a couple years so rods/pistons are out. Give me some ideas. All chevy, ford, and dodge owners are welcome to give all ideas based on what you've done. Everyone else is welcome too based on what you know from other companies. Please, no dumb comments about leaving the truck stock... that isn't going to happen.
Hey there
well it sounds like your off to a great start,
i have a monster 454 that it built to 500 hp,
the difference though is that i am carbed where you are EFI
from my experiance i have gained the most power from replacing the cam, i went from a stock flat tapped cam( flat taped cams are terrible it nearly rip my motor to shreds) to a comp racing cam. i bought a full package though that included lifters, pushrods, valve springs, and rocker arms. it only cost me $300 which was a steal! my torque shot through the roof! if u want more push off the line this is the way to go. another option would be to mill the heads. when you mill the heads though make sure u get it done professionally(dont dick around) if done incorectly you risk detonation.
other than that i would assume there is computer programs that can increase the power by messing with the fuel injection, i do believe i saw an episode of big truck garage that had a vortec that got sum program or chip instaled that gave it more power, however i no nothing about that field
good luck with your truck!!!
