The Diesel DPF Dilemma

If there was a way to make your street-legal diesel particulate filter (DPF) equipped diesel truck perform at the same level as an off-road racing DPF-deleted rig, would you want to know how?  DPF Deletion is great for off-road racing, but what about the rest of us who just want better fuel economy, improved towing and diesel performance?

Most late-model diesel truck owners are now familiar with the term DPF.  If you used to get 15-20 miles per gallon on your pre-DPF diesel truck, you were probably shocked when you first figured out that your brand new $50,000 diesel got 8-13 MPG.  And how about the first time you were towing a heavy load up a long grade when your diesel suddenly went into DPF regeneration and your speed plummeted to the point of being dangerously slow? My new after market exhaust is tripping a sensor on the computer, what could it be?

I have a 2005HD with Duramax and I replaced installed a 4" exhaust. The computer is tripping the turbo, EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valve). I am thinking that the computer just noticed a change in the performance of the system. The installer suggested that I disconnect the battery and let the computer reset itself. Is this problem common with after market exhausts?

yes. most cars pick up changes in both cold air intakes and exhausts. be it temperature or just higher flow, they both set off check engine lights. look for a bypass wiring splice or ask the place you bought the catback from. disconnecting the battery wont help cause the exhaust is still there.
