Can Short Athletes Really Be Leapers?
Being a big time vertical jumper has nothing to do with height. Short, tall or anywhere in between, if an athlete really wants to develop big time hops, it can be done.
It is not unusual in basketball for instance for shorter players to on the one hand want to dunk but on the other hand not believe it is possible because of their height. Bunk.
The same thing applies to volleyball players who just do not believe they can be power spikers or strong defensive shot blockers because they are too short. Not true.
This reality also applies to athletes in soccer, football, track and a variety of other sports where participants give up on some of their dreams because they are not as tall as other competitors.
So make sure to get this very straight up front: being a major leaper is unrelated to how far the top of your head is from the bottom of your feet. Virtually anyone can develop an impressive and useful vertical jump if they really wish to do so and are willing to do the work required.
For you hoopers, how else can you explain someone like Spud Webb being a major league dunker. After all, he was way too short to dunk. But he was blessed with major hops and he refined those enough to become a renown dunker in of all places, the NBA.
Not so blessed you will say. Well of course not, very few human beings are that fortunate. But you do not have to be blessed to earn your way to the top, so to speak. At the end of the day, being able to jump over and above your opponents in football, soccer, volleyball or basketball is just flat a major advantage be it as a defender or as an offensive player.
In basketball, how much more valuable can you be to your team as a shot blocker, offensive and defensive rebounder or as a power slam finisher if you have much better hops?
In soccer, what is the importance of jumping over opponents to head a ball, knock down a pass or block a shot on goal when you have a much higher leap?
Or in football, why not as a receiver be able to jump up over the defender to catch a pass? Conversely as a defender how about being able to jump high enough to block receptions? How important can that be with a game on the line?
And of course as mentioned earlier, the value of a much higher vertical jump to spike or block shots in volleyball is self explanatory.
An athlete can pretty much pick a sport and being able to jump significantly higher has great value to both the individual and to their teams. Just to add one more, how about the difference that can be achieved in track and field? There is no end to the list.
Height is not the important factor. Actually, it really is not a factor at all. What it takes to become a leaper includes the following (note no mention of tallness).
A burning desire to get there.
An attitude that it can be done (which of course it can).
A powerful willingness to do the work required. Not easy to do of course, but it is what is necessary to achieve elite jump status.
The right regimen based upon scientific principles as well as tested and proved information and techniques. Obviously, a major improvement requires a comprehensive program and not just something simple like ankle weights or a leather jump rope.
The commitment to see the training through from start to finish.
Bring these factors to the table and you will in fact become a much higher vertical jumper. The link that follows will take you to a comprehensive program that guarantees a ten inch improvement in your vertical leap or it will double your money back. Not bad when you think about it.
The sky is the limit, figuratively, when it comes to developing better hops and having a hair line that is closer to that sky to begin with has nothing to do with achieving big time outcomes. Will we see you up where the air, and the companionship, is rare?

Energy Conversion of a person jumping on a trampoline.?
I need some help with my HW. I am supposed to use the words potential, kinetic and mechanical energy to describe a person jumping on a trampoline. I don't know how to fit mechanical energy in though. Here is what I have:
You have potential energy when you are standing still.
When the jumper jumps down their kinetic energy is converted into the potential energy of the stretched trampoline.
The trampoline's potential energy is converted into Kinetic Energy, which is transfered to the person jumping making them bounce up.
At the top of their jump, all of their Kinetic Energy has been converted into Potential Energy.
Right before they hit the trampoline, all of their Potential Energy has been converted back into kinetic energy.
Mechanical energy is described as a combination of kinetic and potential energy from the force of gravity release of a machine component (e.g. spring, clamp, wheel). Mechanical energy is used quite often in this example, depending on how many times the person jumps. Mechanical energy fits in the paragraph right as the person jumps, since the potential energy is when the person is standing still, getting ready to jump off. The mechanical energy comes into force on both the person's part and the trampoline. When the person jumps off of the trampoline, they're using mechanical energy to bounce themself into the air like a spring since they are using their own body weight and force, with assistance from the trampoline. The springs in the trampoline release their energy that you caused them to build by being on it. This is also a type of mechanical energy.
I'm not too sure on the trampoline part of this, but the part about the person I'm nearly 100% sure on. You can do more research online or at your local library about Mechanical Energy and examples of it. You can ask your teacher or a parent about it if the assignment is not due too soon. They'll be able to explain in depth and find tactics to help you better understand mechanical energy and how it's applied in everyday life. Hope this helps.
Madness on her mind
The depth and intensity of the empathy Nermine Hammam's photographs of the psychotic patients she befriends inspires in the onlooker is a little frightening. Much of the unease is due to the photographer's insistence on projecting the inner state, the injured souls of her subjects.
