Safe TV Viewing for the Whole Family With Parental Controls From Directv
For many television viewing young parents, the content in modern television shows has become a real concern. It has become increasingly difficult to keep your children safe from the gratuitous sex and gratuitous violence that seem to actually overwhelm the television “air waves” of today. For many young parents, this has become one of the biggest concerns and actually has a lot to do with the parents over all decisions on what channels will be appropriate for their children to watch and when. The only problem is, most parents can not stand around and keep their eye over their children’s shoulders all day trying to protect them from content.
This is where DirecTV comes in to save the day. DirecTV offers what is considered by many to be the best parental controls available for satellite TV anywhere today. DirecTV takes the welfare of young families and their young children very seriously and took that same welfare into consideration when developing their parental controls.
Cable television programmers (and who ever makes these types of decisions) certainly had their hearts in the right place when they developed and put in to place the television ratings system. You may be familiar with such ratings as TV-G ,TV- 14, and of course the scariest of all the ratings (for young parents anyway) being the TV-Ma rating. Although, these television ratings seemed like a great idea when they were being put in to force, unfortunately the logic behind this system was flawed. Theoretically, the idea behind the ratings system would work, under the condition that the parent could watch the television with their children at all times. Unfortunately, this is almost impossible for some families and totally impossible for the rest. Most households today it seems have either single parents, two parents who both work full time jobs, or a stay at home mom or dad who has his or her hands full with many children and house hold chores. In fact, studies have shown that when children watch television alone, they are more likely to seek out programs with ratings like TV-14 and TV-Ma out of curiosity than avoid them altogether. It is unfortunate for sure, but it seems that children do not have a natural instinct for protecting their own innocence. Even if some do, it seems that their natural sense of curiosity always wins in the end.
DirecTV took all of these different factors in to consideration when they developed their superior parental controls. For instance, with DirecTV’s parental controls, the parent can set which channels the children will have access to and at what times they have access to them. The parent can actually lock a channel so that it can not be watched by any body at any time without the parents password. The DirecTV parental control system also uses the “TV-14 / TV-Ma” ratings to their advantage in their parental controls. The parent will have the option of blocking shows based on their television ratings as well. All of this is accessible with the remote control. This system is fool proof because without the password nothing at all can be changed in the parental controls. This means that the now very technologically adept children can not get through a crack that the usually very technologically inept parent would over look.

Do you have one remote control that works the cable box, TV and video recorder?
I can often find a remote that can handle two devices, but never all three. How many remotes do you have for your TV/Entertainment System?
I have a $20 One For All remote that controls my TV, Stereo, Sat, and DVD recorder. The remote can be updated with additional codes. You can mail it to the manufacturer and they'll send it back if you have a device it can't handle out of the box.
When it comes back it'll also have a plug that lets you connect it to your computer for further customization. It's the only remote I need.
I listen to TV over my stereo. The volume controls are locked to the stereo, so no matter if I'm using the remote for DVD or Cable or Sat - the volume always controls the stereo without pushing that device button. I also have single buttons presses that change the tv and stereo to the proper device. (macros)
Programming it with the computer is a big job if you're not inclined to do stuff like that. But mailing it to the factory is easy!
